T. Charles De Jager, Partner
Charles received his law degree from the University of Victoria in 1985 and was called
to the British Columbia Bar in 1986. Charles carries on a litigation and mediation counsel
practice focused in the areas of coporate and commercial, wills and estates and employment
and human rights. Charles has presented numerous workshops on a variety of topics in his areas
of expertise. Charles has appeared before all levels of Court in British Columbia as well
as administrative and quasi-judicial bodies including the Human Rights Council and Employment
Standards. He has also made extensive use of mediation and other alternative dispute resolution
techniques.
Charles is a trained mediator with practical mediation experience.
Charles is a member of the Canadian and British Columbia Bar Associations and has served
and currently serves on the advisory committees and boards of numerous charities and non profit
organizations. Charles also serves in his local church and is an avid fisherman and sportsman.
He lives in Surrey with his wife Joyce and their four children Ryan, Joshua, Michael and Kimberly.
Kenneth H. Volkenant, Partner
Ken received his law degree from the University of British Columbia and was called to the British
Columbia Bar in 1987. Ken carries on a solicitor's practice in the areas of corporate & commercial,
wills and estates and real estate development. Ken specializes in corporate and real estate legal
services for non profit organizations and charities. He has developed particular expertise in
re-structuring organizations to adapt to changes in corporate vision, membership and general
operations. Ken has assisted numerous non profit organization and charity clients through
development and expansion programs and has considerable experience and expertise in the
affordable housing sector. Ken also advises clients with regard to the legal apsects of planned
giving, capital programs and foundations.
Ken is a member of the Canadian and British Columbia Bar Associations and has served and currently
serves on advisory committees and boards of numerous non profit organizations. Ken lives in Surrey
with his wife Sandee and their three children Brayden, Rhys and Lindsay. Ken is active in his
church community and enjoys playing and coaching soccer.
Gary Hoftyzer, Associate
Gary received his law degree from Queen’s University and was called to the Ontario Bar in 2002.
In 2006, he was admitted to the British Columbia Bar. Gary practices in the areas of charitable law,
corporate/commercial law and civil litigation. He is focused on assisting organizations, particularly
non-profit, with their legal and management requirements. Gary lives in Surrey and is active in his
church. He enjoys volunteering, sports and academic pursuits.
Mailyn Erickson, Paralegal
Marilyn is a senior paralegal who brings over 35 years of legal experience to out firm.
Marilyn's areas of expertise are corporate & commercial, non profit organizations, wills and
estates and real estate. Marilyn also has experience in general commercial litigation and
brings significant administrative expertise to our firm. Marilyn lives in Richmond with her
daughter Teresa, is active in her church community, and enjoys reading, craft and the outdoors.
Nicole Murray, Legal Secretary
Nicole is a legal secretary/assistant specializing in litigation. She received her legal
education at Trend and Douglas Colleges and has particular experience in the areas of personal
injury, corporate & commercial and estate litigation. Nicole lives in Surrey with her daughter
Katelyn and enjoys reading, coaching figure skating, jogging and various other sporting activities.
Anne Ducommun, Accountant
Anne brings over 25 years of accounting experience to our firm and provides us with excellent
financial, bookkeeping and trust account management services. Anne lives in Coquitlam with her
husband Dale and enjoys reading and street rodding with her husband.
Katie Martens, Legal Secretary/Receptionist
Katie is a legal secretary who received her education from Sprott-Shaw Community College. Katie serves
as our receptionist and supports the corporate and non profit organization departments.
Katie lives in Aldergrove and enjoys reading, walking, and also Polynesian dances in her spare time.
Katelyn Van Hove, Junior Legal Secretary
Katelyn has just recently graduated from Fraser Valley Christian High School, and is the newest addition
to the team as a junior legal secretary.
Katelyn enjoys reading, writing, and helping out with her church youth program.
